Sad Day

I'm feeling sad today. I got a call at 7:15 this morning to inform me that my friend and neighbor of 17 years passed away at 5:20 a.m. Lynette and her husband found out just 10 weeks ago today that she had colon cancer. As is typically the case, she didn't have any symptoms and only found out when she went to see the doctor about something else.

Please, my dear friends, if you are over 50 years old and you haven't yet had a colonoscopy, make an appointment to have it done now. Those who love you will thank you! Colon cancer is very treatable if caught in the early stages. In Lynette's case the cancer had already spread to her liver and lungs. She was only in her mid 50s and leaves behind her husband, five children and a bunch of grandchildren.

I'll always remember (and will miss) Lynette's gentle smile and shy giggle.

  8. I'm sending HUGS to you. It's been a sad few months in your neighborhood, hasn't it? So many cancers are that way--few symptoms and often not caught early enough. Take care of yourself and spend time in the comfort of your family and friends, Kairle!

  12. Oh Kairle, my heart goes out to you! That is very sad - she was much too young.
I had a colonoscopy this year, due to a weird test result, and the doctor found a benign polyp and got rid of it. Polyps can evidently become cancerous if left untreated, so I'm glad I had the procedure. It is definitely a very good thing for people over 50 to have a colonoscopy. I am sorry that you all had to find that out the hard way. My thoughts and prayers are with you and her family. Take care!
