Happy Valley Bag Lady

I haven't been doing a lot of quilting lately. I guess I got a little sidetracked. Kim and I have been having some discussion about bags. I finished a tote a week or so ago, but haven't been able to post a picture because I'll be sending it as a secret gift to a special friend. It was a lot of fun to make and got me looking into other bag patterns.

Last night I came home after having dinner out with DH and put this bag together.....

I stumbled across this bag pattern at the U-handbag blog and it's called the Basket Style bag. I have to admit that I'm pretty proud of the finished results. It was my first attempt at a magnetic snap and everything went together pretty quickly.

I could hardly wait to get out of bed this morning so that I could start on my next bag.....

I bought this Michael Miller Halloween fabric with bag making in mind. For this bag I used the dimensions from the Country Tote by Indygo Junction, but used the same techinque as the Basket Style bag. I also made my own variation for the handles. Didn't this turn out cute? I'm all ready to go trick-or-treating!!! Have lots of chocolate handy for when I stop by!

Here is a little coin purse that I made for DD2.....

The instructions for this coin purse also came from the U-handbag blog. I think I need to work with zippers a little bit more to find a way of stitching that won't tweek the zipper.

I still have an Amy Butler pattern that I bought yesterday, so I may try and work on that this afternoon.

  1. I love that first one, Kairle with that wild red flower. Neat old TB fabric. I used those magnitic snaps on my bag also. Isn't bag making fun?

  3. It must have been bag making day. I also worked on a bag today. Not quite finished because I had to do a little unstitching (ugh). I want this to turn out nicely because it is a gift. I know that I am a perfectionist, but you can't teach an old dog new tricks. DH said it looked great and I was crazy. Like that is a new comment.LOL! I will be anxious to see tomorrows bag and I will have the chocolate ready on 10/31.

  4. As we've discussed, Kairle, I've yet to make one but I'm sure interested! I can hardly wait to finish my quilting project so I can move onto bag making. I picked up a pattern by Renee Plains at the quilt shop--funny because I've read her blog and thought the name was familiar--sure enough! LOL! I love all the bags you've made so far and am looking forward to seeing more!

  5. Absolutely adorable bags, Kairle! I'm bagophobic so I just admire them from afar. LOL

I did purchase pattern today and I'm hoping it's something I can do - haven't read the instructions yet. Time will tell. LOL
